Why Join the Friends?

Two kinds of people join the Friends of the North Carolina Accessible Books and Library Services: supporters and patrons.

Supporters often have family or friends who use the Library’s services. They also are concerned citizens who support literacy efforts for all North Carolina citizens. Supporters are businesses and companies that do business with blind and disabled communities. Community and business supporters enjoy being part of the Friends’ efforts at creating the best Library in the country. Through membership, supporters also help fund the Projects promoted by the Friends.
 Why should you join Friends of the North Carolina Accessible Books and Library Services Watch Comedienne Paula Poundstone explain her relationship with libraries in the following video.

What Your Membership Enables

Patrons join the Friends because they appreciate the services of the Library and understand that those services are enhanced through the efforts of the Friends organization. A Friends membership supports new equipment, new reading material and expanded offerings by the Library. Patrons who become Friends see immediate results and are directly impacted by the work performed on their behalf.

Patrons and supporters alike are part of the Friends’ focus and financial foundation.

Through membership, patrons and supporters participate in letting others know about the Library services, regardless of their physical abilities. A Friends membership keeps everyone in touch through a periodic newsletter and other means. Memberships help pay for the recordings of wonderful local authors of books and magazines and support this website.

Together, members encourage involvement and increase awareness of the many possibilities the Library opens for the blind and print disabled.

Membership = Effective Advocacy

Through effective advocacy campaigns waged by the Friends, members help to ensure community support for services and building needs. They can make a long lasting and significant difference for the Library through advocacy.

An organization can join for $50. Other membership opportunities include a $100-Club membership and a Plus-Club membership for $300 a year. A Lifetime membership is available for $500. Click here to join. Individuals are encouraged to join for only $10 or $15 for the whole family.
